Crankbaits provide anglers an opportunity to present a lure that closely resembles the forage that the fish are feeding on. Crankbaits come in different sizes and weights to allow for adjustments in the depth the angler wishes to cover. The crankbait's lip size determines how deep they will swim. The shorter lip keeps the crankbait just below the surface in the range of 0-5 ft., while longer lips cover water depths from 5 to 20 ft.
Jerkbaits are most effective in cold water when the fish are lethargic and a stop and go presentation is desired. Jerkbaits can be fished shallow or deep depending on their lip size and weight. The advantage of the suspending jerkbaits is that once you stop the lure during the retrieve, it will stay in the strike zone instead of rising to the surface. Bass and other predatory fish cannot resist attacking an easy prey.
